Launch of Badge for the Duke of York ‘Inspiring Digital Excellence Award’
Digital Marmalade has been working on something a little different, and we’re pleased to announce that it has just gone live and is already getting plenty of attention from the likes of Microsoft and Google.
Working for the HRH The Duke of York's Inspiring Digital Enterprise Award (iDEA CIC), we have created an online learning module – known as a ‘badge’ - towards the iDEA Bronze Award. iDEA is a new way for young people to ‘learn digital and enterprise skills and showcase their achievements to potential employers’. For each skill learned, the pupil receives a digital badge containing a number of points that they can pin to their CV. When they have enough points, they are awarded the Bronze, Silver or Gold Inspiring Digital Enterprise Award. Anyone can have a go at the badges – all you have to do is register on iDEA.
Digital Marmalade created a badge that develops skills in constructing algorithms, with the particular goal of becoming proficient in automation via The Internet of Things. Using some relatable situations and contexts for young people, our badge takes you through a series of steps that develop algorithms (or Life Hacks) to make your life easier. For example, wouldn’t it be great if you could set up a Life Hack to automatically tell your parents you have left school every day? No more getting into trouble for forgetting to text!
So, the pupil has to select the correct device, software, app, digital tool at the right point, connecting the dots to correctly produce the result.
As mentioned, our badge is already proving to be very popular and has gained praise from users, as well as the client themselves!
With our first badge delivered, we are now working on a further set of very different, but immersive badges – so watch this space!
